In Celebration of the Recession...

...We rented "Alice in Wonderland," a decidedly more confusing and bleaker Disney film than those who have entered the princess canon. Though the others may include witches and other assorted mean people, Alice's overarching dream, random characters and Queen of Hearts are not vanquished. They are escaped only when Alice wakes from her dream. Somehow that doesn't seem to make them go away, at least I can imagine, to a child.

The Bean lent her opinion when she told me to turn it off. "I don't like it," she said. "It doesn't have any happy parts."

Not until the election, dear.
