1. Spending part of a sunny afternoon on the roof of the Met, ostensibly to see the Koons pieces (and afterwards introduce the nearly age-of-reason Bean to the Temple of Dendur). The Bean had brought her drawing pad and colored pencils for the train ride, but we found ourselves lounging on the roof while she drew. It's amazing, her drive to draw: among other things she drew the museum from a side perspective so she could reveal, though windows, all the stairs we climbed to get to the roof. "And Lena is crying because she just woke up."
Lena had her treasured figurines (the "mommy" was a Pez dispenser) so she was content to make them talk to one another. What a nice time to see two young children who, while tired, are enjoying themselves, the older one seeming to grow before my eyes into who she may become. It makes me eager for the future outings we can share.
(This sounds wonderfully blissful, and it was. And I will leave it at that, and not spend much time on Lena's face plant in Times Square because she wanted to "Run!" and how the girls decided that bodyslamming one another in our dining booth was the next best thing to dessert.)
2. Angelina Jolie nursing one of her twins on the cover of "W" magazine, happily. What a nice way for celebrity culture to celebrate nursing women and their babies! Or at least, to remind us of what ELSE those are for.
