Last day of preschool for the summer, and junk food comes out of the woodwork. From teachers? high school student helpers? Who knows. A four year-old is not a very reliable source when amusedly interrogated. This year, I am viewing it as my introduction to the "wings" part of raising kids. But at least there was this, this afternoon:
"I don't like chocolate doughnuts. I only like chocolate by itself."

As I've written before, my mother tried to keep us (completely?) off sugar when we were young, then experimented with carob in the late seventies.* So I guess I now feel the "everything in moderation" wisdom quite keenly here, as both my sister and I would probably take that chocolate doughnut, consider its palm oils for a second, and then SHOVE IT IN. Without breathing.
*Later on, when I would return home from school craving a sweet treat, I would have no other recourse than to open my Disney children's cookbook and make sugar cookies from scratch. In retrospect, a brilliant move on my mother's part...
