I am taking a packing break to let you know that moving bites the big one. Tonight I am deeply missing those post-college, desperate days when I could fit everything I owned in my car, even if the car was a Ford LTD-type, and often did, as malcontent demanded. Since these days, I have also realized, many, many things have been invented and given to us as gifts or hand-me-downs--or that we ourselves have bought--that we do not need:
1. Drink markers that dangle from the cocktail glass stems. If you are drunk enough to forget where you put your glass, well then, someone else's germs aren't your biggest health concern at the moment.
2. Several mugs with witty sayings.
3. Shoe racks that don't allow you to close your closet door, so that you see your shoes day in and day out as you enter your bedroom. For a woman, this has a small upside, in that you never go into a shoe store and think, I can't recall if I have a pair of light brown flats.... They are, in fact, etched in your memory.
4. Statues of any kind.
There may be a blog break as I unpack and find my computer and sanity, hopefully not in that order.

I guess that means that I should give the cup holder/statue/labeled drink mugs with witty sayings about shoe racks to another recent mover (and I thought it was the perfect gift) ... perhaps a nice houseplant would be better
